Delicious Dutch Apple Pie

My favorite pie in the whole world is Dutch apple pie. It is the first pie that i actually remember eating and falling in love with. So of course when I saw apples on sale at my local grocery store I decided to pick up a few apples make some delicious pie

Ingredients

  • Your favorite pie crust (ready-made or homemade)
  • 5 1/2 cups of apples (I usually like to mix it up between a granny smith, mac, and fuji apple)
  • 1 tbs lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tbs flour
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Topping Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine at room temperature
How to Put It Together:
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F 
  2. Fit the pie crust into the pie plate
  3. Peel, core, and slice apples so that they are all the same size ( I like to slice mine thin so that the apple cooks evenly)
  4. In a large bowl toss together the apples, lemon juice, sugars, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  5. Layer the apple mixture into the pie crust
  6. Now to prepare the topping. In a medium bowl combine the flour sugars, and butter until it resembles a course crumble.
  7. Sprinkle it evenly on top of the apples all the way to the crust
  8. Bake for 55 minutes.
  9. Allow to cool for at least 15-20 minutes before digging in, to allow the filling to settle. 
Serving:
  • Serve it with a giant scoop of vanilla or caramel ice cream and/or whipped cream!
