Companies That Care: Free Coupons!

Hi Everyone,

So these past couple of weeks I reached out to companies that I loved and told them about the products I enjoyed and thanked them for creating such a great products. So here's a little bit about each company that has responded so far.

  • GlaxoSmithKline - They make Breathe Right, Os-Cal, Alli, Tums, Aquafresh, Biotene, Sensodyne,  Polident, Citrucel, and Abreva.
    • I emailed Sensodyne about their toothpaste and told them that their product helped me a lot after I whitened my teeth and I thanked them for such a great product.
    • They responded with an individualized email that they were glad I was a satisfied customer, would share my compliments with the Sensodyne team, and that they would send me coupons!
    • I received the coupon a few days later and a letter thanking me again! They sent me coupon booklets that had coupons for all of the products they make!
  • Oregon Chai by Kerry Ingredients & Flavours
    • I emailed them about how they helped me kick my coffee obsession when I made the switch to drinking tea.
    • They responded with an individualized email thanking me for my compliments and that they would send me $1 off coupons!
    • About a week or so later I had a short note and a ton of Oregon Chai coupons! WOOT!
  • Heinz
    • I emailed Heinz telling them that I loved their Easy Fries, which I really do! I told them that is the best thing to help me make snack time with fries even easier. Best product ever to come to fries.
    • They responded thanking me for my compliments and that I could find coupons for Easy Fries in the Sunday paper and in stores.
    • I was a little disappointed that they didn't want to send me coupons but I was like its ok, at least they know their product is awesome. Anyway about a week later I received a note from Heinz thanking me for contacting them about their products and they sent me coupons for two free Easy Fries! Wooah, didn't expect that, totally awesome!

Veggie Week: Tofu Veggie Couscous

Hello Everyone!

So this week I'm going all veggies for every meal, that means no meat this week and limited to no eggs and dairy. It's a good thing I love my veggies, and my boyfriend is totally on board with my little project too. So come along with me on this great adventure!

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 Cups of Vegetable Broth
  • 1 1/2 Cups of Cous Cous
  • 1 Tbs of butter or butter substitute
  • 4 oz of Sliced Baby Shiitake Mushrooms
  • 1 Medium Sized Zucchini cut into bite sized pieces
  • 1 cup of white onions (I usually buy frozen chopped onions its super easy and cheap)
  • 1/2 Tofu Cut into Cubes
  • 2 Tbs of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1/4 Cup Italian Dressing

How To Put It Together:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F
  2. Drain the tofu by wrapping it in a kitchen cloth, placing it on a plate, put another plate on top and a weight  on the very top to help drain the tofu of any extra liquid. Let sit for at least 15 minutes
  3. While your tofu is draining you can slice your mushrooms and chop up the zucchini into bite sized pieces.
  4. Now chop up the tofu into cubs, place in a bag with the italian dressing. Let this marinate for about 15-30 minutes.
  5. After marinating bake in the oven for 30 minutes
  6. Heat a medium sized skillet over medium heat and then drizzle in the olive oil.
  7. Now sauté the onions for 2 minutes, next add the mushrooms and sauté them for 5 minutes, lastly add the zucchini and sauté until its all cooked to your liking for me I cooked it for an additional 10-15 minutes. Don't forget to add salt and pepper, however much you like!
  8. Now in a medium sized sauce pan, bring the vegetable broth to a boil and add the butter.
  9. Once it is boiling take it off the heat and stir in the couscous, cover and let sit for 5 minutes.
  10. Fluff the couscous with a fork and add to a large bowl, mix in the veggies and tofu.
  11. Serve warm or cold, both are delicious!
Enjoy!

BLT Pizza

I would like to thank my friend Becky for this recipe. She showed me this super easy recipe when she came to visit me and my boyfriend. I love how easy this dish is and there is basically only one thing you really have to cook, two if you choose too.

Ingredients:

  • Pre-made pizza crust
  • Ranch vegetable dip
  • 1 pint grape tomatoes or cherry tomatoes, whatever looks good that day
  • 1/2 bag of lettuce
  • 8 slices of bacon

How to Put It Together:

  1. Heat up the pizza crust in the oven according to the package directions.
  2. Cook the bacon, for this I used my microwave technique because of how fast and easy it is, but you can do it however you'd like.
  3. Chop up the bacon after its cooled.
  4. Cut the grape tomatoes in half or if you got cherry tomatoes cut them into quarts
  5. Now to assemble the pizza spread the ranch vegetable dip like you would tomato sauce.
  6. Next place the lettuce, tomatoes, and bacon evenly over the pizza
  7. Cut and serve
It's as easy as that, enjoy!

Salad Garden Update (Week 2)

Hello Fellow Food Adventurers,

As you know I started a salad garden last week, and though a lot of people said that the seeds would take a couple of weeks to germinate, over the weekend they already started sprouting up. The green beans are the first to pop out of their seeds and are growing at a ridiculously fast rate. They busted out of the mini green house over the weekend and had to be transported into a pot (which you can see in the second picture. Now that they are out of the green house, they have been growing even faster it seems. They are now about a foot tall, while the other veggies are still between 1-2 inches tall.

I also applied to be apart of a community garden near by so that all the veggies can grow as big as they want and really thrive. Can't wait for the weather to really warm up!

Eat Well and Adventure On,

Kat
